The NC Values Institution has filed an amicus brief in Louisiana v. FDA, a case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit challenging the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s 2023 changes to the regulations governing the abortion drug mifepristone. The brief supports the State of Louisiana’s appeal, arguing that the FDA’s removal of the in-person dispensing requirement undermines states’ ability to enforce their abortion laws and weakens important safety safeguards. It also raises concerns about the impact of mail-order abortion drugs on women, healthcare providers, and state sovereignty. Through this filing, the NC Values Coalition urges the Fifth Circuit to reverse the lower court’s decision and restore the prior safeguards while the case proceeds.
