The NC Values Institute filed an emergency amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in Mirabelli v. Bonta, urging the Court to lift a Ninth Circuit stay and stop California’s Parental Exclusion Policy, which allows public schools to secretly “socially transition” children without parental knowledge or consent. The brief argues that this policy is a direct assault on parents’ fundamental right to direct the upbringing of their children, forcing schools to deceive families and placing teachers and students under mandates that compel ideological speech. NCVI warns that the policy turns family authority on its head, elevating state power and a child’s unilateral declaration over parental involvement, while also violating constitutional protections of conscience, religion, and free expression. The Institute calls on the Court to intervene immediately to halt ongoing harm to families and reaffirm that parents—not government bureaucracies—are the primary guardians of their children’s well-being.
